It’s up to you to take action here and start talking to other people. Make sure you say hello when you get in in the morning and smile at people – its catching. When you’ve had a few smiles back, start conversations with open questions and show a real interest in others. It doesn’t have to be complicated just ask people how they enjoyed their weekend.
Tell people that you’re new and ask them to spare 5 minutes to have a chat with you about their job and what they enjoy about working there.
Be great at your job, it will make other people respect you and know they don’t have to carry you. Make sure you attend all company events and after work drinks however much you don’t want to go! Keep a big open sweetie jar on your desk. You can say it’s your addiction but you will soon find you have more friends at work than you thought. If none of this works maybe the cultures not right for you and you should start looking for a new job.
